Wii U System Update is Now Live

Wii U

The latest system update will bring a number of new features and enhancements. This will update your Wii U from version 3.0.1 U to 3.1.0 U. But depending on when you last updated your system, or if this is your first time updating your system, it might take over an hour. If you updated your system prior to December 4, your system will download the latest system update in the background. Keep in mind that “during the update, the progress bar displayed on the Wii U Gamepad may take a while to start moving. This is normal. If the download is happening in the background, it’s okay to power off the system using the power buttons.”

*Do not unplug your system during the system update this process otherwise you’ll brick your system and all you’ll have left is a very expensive paper weight.

Improvements to Standby Functions:

  • The standby functions will now regularly connect to the Internet when the Wii U is powered down to check for available SpotPass data or software and system updates. Software updates will be installed while the Wii U is powered down, and system updates will be installed the next time the Wii U is powered on. For further detailed information, click here.

Improvements to system stability and usability:

  • Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
