Nintendo has announced of a new console and devices that’s targeted at new markets. This new hardware will is from the ground up and won’t simply be a cheaper alternative to their existing hardware, the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.

Nintendo President Satora Iwata explained on Bloomberg:

“We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have. The product and price balance must be made from scratch.”

He reiterated that these plans will not be taking place on mobile phones.

“We have had a console business for 30 years, and I don’t think we can just transfer that over onto a smartphone model,” he revealed.

Gaming After Hours perspective:

Though little is known at this time, this new hardware is more then anything, simply Nintendo exploring new options for additional income. What this hardware is and what it detail is unknown but it’ll be targeted toward a different audience other then the the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Though I’m sure many uninformed Nintendo fans will pick up this new hardware and even confuse it as a replacement for the Wii U. Even more so if it’s a hugely success.

It is very doubtful that Nintendo is moving a from the video game console and portable space.

What do you think this new hardware could be?
