Minecraft is the second best selling video game – Selling 54 million

The ever popular Minecraft is now the second best selling video game, beating the likes of Super Mario Bros (40.24 million) on the NES, Grand Theft Auto V (32.37 million) and even Tetris (30.26 million) on the GB.

Minecraft has sold roughly 54 million copies to date across all platforms and with PlayStation 4, PS Vita and Xbox One version scheduled to be released this month of August, its not impossible to image that its total number will keep growing for years to come as the install base grows.

According to Mojang’s data analyst Patrick Geuder explained on twitter that the total combined sales for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 console versions have surpassed that of both PC and Mac. The Mojang website detailed that more than 15 million people own the PC and Mac version.
