2K Games: Swearing like a sailor in NBA 2K14 will get you a technical foul

GamingAfterHours.com

2K Sports has explained that if the Kinect or PlayStation Camera catches you using profanity while playing NBA 2K14, you’ll be given a technical foul.

A 2K Sports representative confirmed to Polygon in NBA 2K14 that if the Kinect or PlayStation Camera catches wind of a player using profanity while playing the game, you’ll be given a technical foul.  This applies to all users who have an Kinect on Xbox One, Xbox 360 or the PlayStation Camera on PS4. Though it should be noted that,  even though this functionality is enabled by default, there is an option to disable it in the game menu if the player decides too.

You can see NBA 2K14‘s voice-activated technical fouls for yourself in the video from YouTube user ‘randomfrankp‘. He flies into a rage after being slapped with a technical for swearing at Kinect in the Xbox One version of NBA 2K14 (NSFW language, obviously).

When asked what words could lead to a technical foul, the 2K Sports Representative said, “The obvious ones are there.” The representative also explained that “this was a feature we incorporated [in] NBA 2K13 that we felt brought both realism to the game, and a more civilized online environment for our players. The result was so positive we have continued it in NBA 2K14.

NBA 2K14  is avaiable on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows, iOS and Android

Hahah this is a great idea, I love it when developers pay attention to details like this, plus is makes the game a lot more enjoyable when you don’t have to listen to some little kid swearing at you

I think it’s pretty cool. It also looks like the game can also pass the ball with your voice. At least from what I can tell. It’s cool but yes, I think it could be very annoying. I don;t know how well Kinect recognizes an individual voice input but if it’s not that good. It would suck if some random person yelling profanity and yelling pass, pass pass. – screwing up the game for yea.

See I can honestly say this is a very creative yet annoying idea. This being said 2k did well with voice recognition pairing with the connect, but in a heated game with friends everyone so happens to use offensive language and cuss. So this feature could get very annoying soon.

Have something to say?
