Sony has confirmed that a new PS4 System Software Update (1.75) is now available. This update allows your console to play 3D Blu-Ray movies. This is quite a sudden update since the last system update (1.74) was just recently released.
Apparently Micosoft has also confirmed of the same fuctionality is coming to the Xbox One.
Keep in mind that if you do view your movies in 3D, it will cut your resolution in half because half of that resolution will be targeted toward the left eye and the other will be targeted toward the right eye. In other words, you won’t be viewing the movie in 1080p but rather each eye will be viewing the movie in 540p.
Also, you will need a compatible an HD 3D compatible television to take advantage of this new feature.
